【Wilson Trail】
W031 is located in Section 4 of Wilson Trail, next to a well pillar.
Wilson Trail is named after the 27th Governor of Hong Kong, David Wilson, Baron Wilson of Tillyorn. Among the four major long-distance hiking trails in Hong Kong, Wilson Trail is the youngest. Opened in 1996, Wilson Trail is 78 km long with 10 sections, running from south to north across Hong Kong. It is Hong Kong's second longest hiking trail, unique for being the only trail crossing Victoria Harbour. As the trail is named after Wilson, its distance markers start with W.

When interviewed by local media about why he designed Wilson Trail as Governor of Hong Kong, David Wilson cited two main reasons:
1. There are many valuable old buildings and villages in rural areas, especially those with traditional Chinese architecture. He felt it worthwhile to build a hiking trail for people to appreciate these buildings.
2. As he enjoyed hiking, he had been exploring Hong Kong's countryside every weekend since studying at university in Hong Kong, getting to know the peaks in Kowloon, the New Territories and Hong Kong. Drawing from his experience as government adviser when Murray MacLehose was Governor of Hong Kong in the 1970s, he designed another trail running from south to north with a higher difficulty than MacLehose Trail.
Due to the end of his term as Governor of Hong Kong in 1992, Wilson handed over completion of Wilson Trail's design to others. Like many Hong Kong people, Wilson disliked artificial "stairs", feeling they jarred with nature. However, stairs were eventually accepted to attract more people to the countryside and reduce trail difficulty.
MacLehose Trail has the Oxfam Trailwalker while Wilson Trail has the Raleigh Challenge.
